HAPPY BIRTHDAY TATA MADIBA

(Above) Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela is a hero to many. He determination changed a destiny of a nation. A humble soul that brought a country together. Today the world celebrates Mandela birthday and by showing him gratitude for his efforts people are urged to give back to the community for 67 minutes. Every minute demonstrates the number of years he dedicated his life to fight for freedom.

Although he has been deemed as the founder of the nation he always been humble about the matter. He numerous interviews he always stressed the point that he was not the only one fighting their where a number of patriots that fought in the struggle.

There are so many quotes that give me chills down my spine. Check out my favourite quotes from Nelson Mandela:
  •   "We dedicate this day to all the heroes and heroines in this country and the rest of the world who sacrificed in many ways and surrendered their lives so that we could be free."
  • “Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.”
  • Never, never and never again shall it be that this beautiful land will again experience the oppression of one by another and suffer the indignity of being the skunk of the world
  • “The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
  • “No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
  • I have walked that long road to freedom. I have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb.  I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can rest only for a moment, for with freedom comes responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not yet ended.
This is my favourite quote that stands out from the rest:

"I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons will live together in harmony with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for, and to see realised. But my Lord, if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die."

This was a statement during the Rivonia trial in 1964 where he was sentenced to be imprisoned for life.
It was because of his determination that I can enjoy the benefits of living in an equal society. I also have friendships that I could never imagine not having if we as a nation were still oppressed.

It is because of a man like him that I can say I am proudly South African!!!!
THANK YOU TATA HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAY GOD BLESS YOU!
